
Who is the course for?
The course has been designed for managers and staff of criminal justice agencies. It comprises of four modules as part of the Inclusion and Diversity programme.

Defining equality and supporting legislation
What will you learn?
– To define equal opportunities and discrimination (direct, indirect, by association, perception, harassment and victimisation).
– To develop an understanding of the practical application, and their duties around, the Equality Act 2010 and Public Sector Equality Duty.
– To identify strategies to promote inclusive practice and challenge discrimination.

– What is equality and diversity?
– Public Sector Equality Duty
– What is discrimination? How to identify and talk about it
– Current issues in context
– Case studies – Practical application of the Equality Act and Anti-Discriminatory Practice using ‘real life’ case studies
Module 2 – 2pm – 4.30pm

How pre-judging affects decision making
What will you learn?
– To identify what can affect our judgements.
– To recognise what experiences can influence our decision making.
– To develop an action plan to prevent discriminatory decision making.
What topics are covered?
– What is pre-judging and how can we make assumptions?
– What can affect our decision making?
– Which areas of work can our personal experiences influence?
– Practical tips to challenge our assumptions
