Study Shows Equal Opportunity Still A Long Way Off In The UK

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Equality legislation has been in place since the 1970s, and we expected that by now things would have improved. Despite legislation such as the Equal Pay Act 1970, the Sex Discrimination Act 1975, and the Race Relations Act 1976 being passed by the UK government more than 50 years ago, a large segment of the population still feels underprivileged because of protected characteristics such as age, race, or gender.

A recent survey by Hays, a specialist recruitment company, revealed that 51% of professionals do not believe that people of all backgrounds will ever have equal opportunity to succeed within their organizations.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

In the survey, key points were highlighted as follows:

– 37% of workers want to see improvement in recruitment practices

– Nearly half of professionals (48%) want to see organisations implement more training for managers to improve ED&I

– People believe that their chances of securing a job are often hindered by their age (56%), ethnicity or nationality (42%) or their gender (33%)

Experts recommend that organisations provide more training for managers and leaders as well as review the career progression process and recruitment strategy.
